All About Seattle: A Jewel in Washington
Jet City, Washington's
Emerald City, City of Flowers; these are but some of the many names
that people use to describe Seattle. It is indeed a jewel city of the
state, not only because it is one of its most prominent seaport
cities, but it is also the largest city in the Pacific Northwest.
Seattle's geographical
location claims an oceanic climate, exhibited often by dry summers
and mild, wet winters. The bodies of water surrounding the city, like
the saltwater Puget Sound, Lake Washington, and the Pacific Ocean
keeps the city's temperature at bay, which means homeowners don't
have much to worry about when it comes to protecting
their roof against extreme temperatures.
One of the most
outstanding landmarks in the Seattle skyline is the Space Needle, a
tower that's more than 600 feet high, and features an observation
deck and a rotating restaurant about 500 feet off the ground. Other
famous landmarks in the city include the Pike Place Market, Seattle
Central Library, and the Seattle Great Wheel.
Sports also has a
tremendous presence in the city, as it is the home of teams like the
Mariners (MLB), the Seahawks (NFL) and the Thunderbirds (WHL). It
also used to have an NBA team of its own, the Seattle Supersonics,
which many are working to bring back into the game.
